England v Norway returned to Saturday despite heat, injuries and disciplinary row

England’s quarter-final meeting with Norway is back on Saturday, but supporters have raised concerns over extreme heat, training-ground injuries, illness in the Norway camp, Jordan Henderson’s tournament-ending wrist injury and a fresh FIFA disciplinary decision.

England’s upcoming clash with Norway has been restored to its original Saturday slot after tournament organisers confirmed the weather-related delay had been lifted.

The fixture had briefly been pushed back to a 2am UK start while officials assessed conditions around the venue. Following further checks, the match has now been “undelayed” and returned to Saturday’s schedule.

Several fans remain worried about the impact on both teams, with temperatures around the venue expected to reach 44°C — conditions many supporters believe neither side has ever had to face in a match of this scale.

England’s preparations have also been disrupted by reports that Declan Rice and Marc Guéhi suffered injuries during training, raising questions over how strong the side will be when the quarter-final begins.

Norway are facing concerns of their own, with the manager reportedly saying a number of players have been feeling ill in the build-up to the match. That has added to fears that the extreme conditions could play a major role in the tie.

“After further review of the conditions, the fixture will return to its scheduled Saturday window,” a tournament update said.

The decision has still been welcomed by fans who did not want a difficult overnight kick-off, but many are frustrated that the match is going ahead in such intense heat.

England supporters are also annoyed by FIFA’s decision to change Jarell Quansah’s red-card suspension from one game to two, with fans online questioning why the punishment was extended after the original ruling.

There was also a separate squad update on Jordan Henderson, who suffered a broken wrist while celebrating England’s win over Mexico. Henderson has officially undergone surgery, but he will not be cleared to return during the tournament and is now set to miss the rest of the World Cup.

Despite being ruled out on the pitch, Henderson is expected to continue travelling with the England squad, with staff believing his experience and presence around the camp could still be important during the knockout stages.

England reached the quarter-finals after a dramatic win over Mexico, while Norway booked their place by beating Brazil. The winner will move one step closer to the final stages of the tournament.

Further matchday guidance is expected to be issued closer to kick-off, including stadium entry information, medical advice for fans and any remaining weather precautions.
